NJBPU President Appoints New Ombudsperson

TRENTON - BPU President Christine Guhl-Sadovy has announced the appointment of Giuseppe (Joe) Grillo as Ombudsperson for the state regulatory agency.

“The Ombudsperson is an essential member of the NJBPU team in helping us build bridges and connect with municipalities, businesses, stakeholders, and ratepayers across New Jersey,” Guhl-Sadovy said. “Joe’s leadership and experience in municipal government, engagement, and advocacy is an important asset as we continue to serve New Jersey ratepayers.”

Grillo is a seasoned civic and business leader with extensive experience in the corporate, non-profit and political sectors. He also brings a wealth of development, community engagement, and relationship-building experience to his new role as Ombudsperson. Prior to joining the NJBPU, Grillo served as Business Development Manager at American Water and Development Director of Sustainable Jersey. Grillo has also worked with New Jersey Audubon.

The Ombudsperson assists local governments and businesses in accessing information concerning state energy costs and the potential benefits of switching to or utilizing third-party energy suppliers. The Ombudsperson also provides details on State energy programs, subsidies, and grants to reduce energy costs, and to promote energy efficiencies.

“I am honored to join the NJBPU team,” Grillo said.  “I look forward to building upon our mission by forging and strengthening critical links between ratepayers, local governments, New Jersey businesses, and the NJBPU.”

Grillo earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Rider University and his Master’s Degree in Global Affairs from Rutgers-Newark.
