Atlantic City Electric’s Eco Team Helps Safeguard Coastal Waters

ATLANTIC CITY - Atlantic City Energy's Eco Team recently participated in a volunteer event with ReClam the Bay to safeguard coastal waters.

During the event,  volunteers cleaned and bagged shells, which will be used in upwells to create habitats for oysters and clams. This contributes to enhancing water quality and securing shorelines in Barnegat Bay.

The program was run through ReClam the Bay, a local, non-profit environmental organization that promotes environmental involvement and education in a constructive and helpful way. The nonprofit grows and maintains millions of baby clams and oysters in the Barnegat Bay Watershed, which includes Barnegat Bay, Manahawkin Bay, and Little Egg Harbor Bay.

Shellfish play a vital role in the health of New Jersey's coastal waters. As natural filter feeders, they help improve water quality by removing pollutants and excess nutrients. Their presence helps stabilize shorelines, reducing erosion and protecting coastal habitats.
