TRENTON - Applications for the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s $7 million Green Workforce Training Grant Challenge will be accepted beginning Thursday, Aug. 8.
The program is designed to prepare New Jerseyans for green economy careers, with a focus on advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion and serving overburdened communities. The state will be distributing grants from $250,000 to $1.5 million.
Applicants competing for these grants are being asked to submit plans to develop and implement workforce training and skills programs focused on strengthening and diversifying the state’s green economy.
Components of programs must include direct workforce training/skill development, and, where relevant, support services such as career development, mentorship, and wraparound assistance including for transportation fare, childcare, eldercare, and counseling.
Proposed initiatives must focus on one or two (but no more than two) of the following industries:
- Offshore Wind
- Other Renewable Energy Technologies
- Green Design & Construction
- Environmental and Green Infrastructure
- Grid Resilience
- Clean Transportation
- Energy Efficiency
Those who receive the grants can spend state money for design, planning, capital, and implementation costs to conduct trainings in green economy industries.
