NJUA Joins in Celebration of Earth Week

JERSEY CITY - The New Jersey Utilities Association joined in a family- and kid-friendly festival on April 26 at Liberty State Park as the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) capped off a weeklong celebration of Earth Week.

During the celebration, the public had plenty of opportunities to learn about the many interesting facets of New Jersey’s diverse environment and the work the DEP does to protect it. The day featured immersive activities, informative displays, walks, crafts, and activities specially tailored for children.

NJUA President & CEO Richard Henning and NJUA External Affairs Director Joey Gurrentz were on hand to explain the work of New Jersey's utilities, which incudes gas, electric, water/wastewater and broadband services to nearly 10 million residents every day.

NJUA hosted an information table, with a steady stream of people stopping by to learn about the vital work of the state's utilities.

Other programs provided information on electric vehicles, birding, nature journaling, Japanese fish printing, solar ovens, wind-powered elevators and many other attractions throughout the day.

“There is much to celebrate about our environment every day, but especially during Earth Week,” said Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette.  “The celebration at Liberty State Park is a wonderful opportunity to get outdoors at one of the most beloved parks in our state to not only see how far our environment has come since the first Earth Day in 1970, but to understand what we all must do to protect it for future generations.”
